It is extremely pleasant that new and extremely interesting cultural institutions are emerging in our city, which offer the residents of Dnipro interesting and meaningful events, as well as becoming a platform for the exchange of ideas. Such an institution is the Dnipro Center for Contemporary Culture.
This Tuesday, June 17, 2025, within the framework of the educational program “Dnipro and Surroundings”, a lecture-presentation by the Deputy Director for Scientific Work of the Museum “Jewish Memory and Holocaust in Ukraine”, Dr. Yehor Vradii, took place within its walls. The lecture was dedicated to one of the most tragic pages in the history of Dnipro, namely, the period of Nazi occupation and genocide of the Jewish population of the city. During the speech of Dr. Ye. Vradii, the chronology of Nazi crimes, the position of the victim's non-Jewish neighbors, the feat of the Saviors and Righteous Among the Nations of the World, as well as the controversial and little-known aspects of the Dnipro Catastrophe: the (non)existence of a ghetto in the city, the Dnipro as a hiding place for Galician Jews, etc. Special attention was paid to the history of the memorialization of the Holocaust in the post-war period and the methods used by the Soviet state to counteract the preservation of the memory of Jewish victims of Nazi terror.
It is very important that the discussion of individual aspects of the topic took place not only in the format of a lecture, but also in a direct dialogue with the audience, who, despite the evening time, asked extremely interesting questions.
We would like to thank Ms. Olya Vasylets and the entire team of staff of the Dnipro Center for Contemporary Culture, who contributed in every way to the organization of this event.
